“Sometimes I wish I were a little kid again, skinned knees are easier to fix than broken hearts.” (Author Unknown)
Hello, my lovely friends!
This is a day that I’ve been dreading for a few weeks and months. Today is the seven year anniversary of my Dad’s death and I even hate calling it an “anniversary” because it feels like a celebration, but we’re not celebrating. They really should find a new word for it because that one sucks. It shocks me thinking that it’s been seven years because it honestly feels like it happened last week. It feels so fresh still. When I turned on the laptop to start writing today’s blog knowing what day it is I’ve been staring at a blank screen for a while trying to figure out what I’m going to post.
This is my Dad. His name is Robert Refuerzo, but he went by Bob. He was born on St. Patrick's Day. My Dad is Polynesian, Mexican, French and Italian.
My Dad had two things he loved in the world the Denver Broncos and fishing. He got season tickets to the Broncos before my sister was born. When the Broncos won their last Superbowl, my Dad bought a huge smart T.V. and would tell everyone that Peyton Manning bought his T.V. That year my Dad season tickets number was pulled for Superbowl tickets, but decided to sell his tickets and use the money to buy the T.V. (that Peyton Manning paid for).
He also loved fishing. There were times when we would all go up to the mountains with my Mom's side of the family and make a camping weekend of it. He loved just sitting there by the lake for hours fishing whether he caught something or not.
The one thing he loved more than anything was my Mom and my sister and I. We were his girls and that's what he called us. Years ago when my sister was in college and I was in high school he took his "girls" to celebrate Valentine’s Day at Casa Bonita and that began a tradition that we did even this year.
However, when he became a Grandpa that was it. He loved Cuinn, Kyle and Sean so much and they all had a special relationship with him. He always wanted someone to rough house with and he got that with the boys. He would do anything for those boys.
My Dad loved food, but he did stick to what he loved and never really ventured out to new things. His main food love was hot dog, which he called God's food and spaghetti. He love Mexican food and anything hot, the hotter the better.
Those are some of the things that my Dad loved in his life. He was a simple man that loved simple things in life.
Love and tons of blessings to you all!
Thank you so much for stopping by. I wish you a good morning, afternoon or evening wherever you are.
Until next time…
Awwww ((HUGS)) . . . love the quote beneath your precious Dad’s photo. For sure, as much as it’s unbelievable that time passes so quickly (my parents will be gone 7 yrs, too) it just goes by, whether we want it to or not! So many special memories. They will always fill your heart.
ReplyDeleteHUGS and blessings to you and your Mom on this day of remembering your Dad.

ReplyDeleteIt's Kathy. Wonderful memories and wonderful photos of your Dad. I love the one where he's eating something chocolate - I can almost hear him laughing. Blessings to you and your mom - you were loved by a great man!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathy! It was tough, but we had our ups and downs.

There is a word for it, from the Jewish tradition. Yahrzeit. Literal translates to "year time". I have sort of adopted the term, even though I am not Jewish, myself.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, finding comfort in the memories of loved ones who have gone on before us helps dull the ache and keep the appreciation of their lives alive!
We did have tough times today, but lots of laughs too. It was a sad, but good day.
