Mexican Hot Chocolate and Snow

"To be happy you must let go of what's gone. Be grateful for what remains. Look forward to what is coming." (Author Unknown)

Hello, my lovely friends!

Mother Nature is letting Jack Frost take over for the weekend. It’s already snowing right now and will continue for the whole weekend. It’s not going to be as much snow as last week. But a good amount will come down. I do love how the snow makes everything look so pretty outside. We had such a dry start to winter and now it looks like it’s starting to pick up and bring the snow. Of course it’ll be here and then gone in the next couple of days.

So, with the cold weather I thought I’d post one of my favorite recipe for Mexican hot chocolate.

Mexican Hot Chocolate

Recipe by Isabel Eats

Ingredients

For the hot chocolate

2 cups milk (I used 2%)

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/8 teaspoon chili powder

1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne (optional - you can omit this if you don't want it too spicy)

1 ounce bittersweet chocolate

Optional toppings

Marshmallows, chocolate shavings, cinnamon stick for stirring

Instructions

In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, add milk, cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, chili powder and cayenne pepper (if desired).

Mix together with a whisk and heat until the bittersweet chocolate has completely melted and the mixture is hot, but not boiling.

Divide hot chocolate into 2 mugs and serve with marshmallows, chocolate shavings and a cinnamon stick.

Notes

For a thicker and creamier cup of hot chocolate, use whole milk and 2 to 4 oz of bittersweet chocolate.

Thank you so much for stopping by.

I wish you a good morning, afternoon or evening wherever you are.

Until next time Adios!

  4. YUM! It's just cold enough to make hot chocolate enjoyable! Love that added spice w/the cayenne pepper. And I like the idea of adding the bittersweet chocolate to make it just a little thicker. YUM!

Hope you have a great weekend.

    1. I like changing up the hot chocolate and add different things like peppermint, spices, and vanilla. So many things you can do.

      Enjoy your weekend!
