All About Me #12

Great theatre is about challenging how we think and encouraging us to fantasize about a world we aspire to. (Willem Dafoe)

Hello, my lovely friends!

It’s Friday Funday and you know the drill. I went to the theatre three times last month and thats what Im going with this week for facts, the theatre. I hope you enjoy this weeks facts.

1. In 4th grade we did an end of the year play about the tall legends like Calamity Jane and Paul Bunyan.. I didn’t get a lead row, but I did have a few lines during the Calamity Jane part. My parents came during the day to see the show. My first time on stage.

2. When I was a sophomore in high school I auditioned for a part in the school play, Dracula. I tried out for the maid ad was told we needed a British accent. I knew how to do one because of years watching wrestling. I got the part and this is the play where my dad gave me flowers instead of the beer. LOL

3. My aunt Bernadette would ask each of her nieces and nephew when they graduated high school what they wanted. For a graduation present. I t was 1991 and one of the biggest plays was “Phantom of the Opera” and they were now touring. I told her that’s what I wanted, but it wasn’t coming any time soon, but I told her I’ll wait. I had to wait another year for it sand it was worth every minute of waiting. It’s been here a total of nine times and we’ve been every time it tours here.

4. There’s only been one play that I’ve been too that I could have left during intermission because I didn’t like it at all and it was….Mary Poppins. Now I love the movie, Julie Andrews is incredible, but the play. Eh, they change a few things from the movie and it was crazy changes that I was already checked out from the play. I was amazed with her flying through the theatre though.

5, We try to go to at least four plays a year and a Christmas show. The fist time I saw “The Nutcracker” I was hooked. It’s the ballet I watch every Christmas. Sometimes the show is better in the lobby seeing all the little girls dressed to the nines in their Christmas outfits.

6. There are a handful of plays that we will see every time they come to town: Phantom, Les Mis, Love Never Dies, Wicked, Rent, and now The Moulin Rouge. I keep all my playbills from each play all they way back to my teen years. I used to have the tickets too, but since Covid everything is now on the phone.

Thank you so much for stopping by.

I wish you a good morning, afternoon or evening wherever you are.

Until next time… Adios!

Yummy Strawberries

"The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in your determination!" (Denise Austin)

 Hello, my lovely friends!

I had to go to Sam's Club the other day to pick up a few things and I saw that they had the big container of strawberries on special for $2.98, WOW! I know that's what I said so you know I had to get them. Now I could just eat strawberries just like that especially for breakfast in your cereal or just plain. I thought I show you one of my favorite ways to use strawberries.

You know that you should never wash your strawberries until you are going to eat them because they can become molded really fast. The first thing I do is hull the strawberries and that means just cutting off the stem.

I place the hulled strawberries into my colainder to wash and let them drain. I then slice the strawberries and place the slices into a deep container.

I then get my Splenda and red wine vinegar. Sprinkle about 1 TBSP. of the sugar into the container and then get your red wine vinegar and pour 1/4 to 1/3 cup of the vinegar into the container.

Put a lid on the container and shake it up to mix it all together. Place it in the fridge and let it all get to know each other for a few hours. The strawberries liquid becomes like a syrup, it's sweet with a little tang to it and nothing at all of vinegar.

Some of the uses for the straweberries and red wine vinegar:
1. scoop of ice cream, frozen yogurt
2. use it in a smoothie in the morning
3. mix it in with yogurt
4. make homeade lemonade and use the strawberries to make it strawberry lemonade
5. by themselves, super yummy!

Thank you so much for stopping by.

I wish you a good morning, afternoon or evening wherever you are.

Until next time… Adios!

It's Lemonade Time (recipe)

"Find something you're passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it." (Julia Child)

Hello, my lovely friends!

I love lemons! I really love lemons! Come to think about it I just love all things citrus and love using them when I'm cooking. I normally make just a tradition lemonade and last year I started playing around with strawberries. This year thanks to Pinterest I have a bunch of lemonade ideas and today I thought I'd start with the one I was eager to try the most.

This is what you will need:
Blender
Pot (you're going to be cooking)
bag of lemons (about 8 to 10)
1/2 watermelon or a small whole watermelon
1 1/2 cup of Splenda
A lot of water

I'm using a huge pitcher that fits about two gallons (it's big, but that means more for me). This is going to take some work on your part, but worth it.

You going to take about eight lemons, clean them and then squeeze all that golden goodness out of them. Keep some of the lemons after squeezing all the juice.

In a sauce pan put in a cup of two cups of water and either 1 cup of Splenda or 1/2 cup of honey. Now bring that to a boil and then turn it down to low. Toss in the lemons that you squeezed (not the juice, but the lemon halves). Let that simmer for about five minutes and then turn the stove off.  Transfer the juice to a container to cool off.

Grab you pitcher some water (okay, a lot of water) Take your lemon juice and pour it in the pitcher.  Then get your cooled down sugar syrup and strain the liquid because you only want the liquid. Now pour that into your pitcher and add water to fill up the container. Stir it up and let it chill in the fridge.

If you can't wait then grab a glass fill it with some ice cubes and enjoy our lemonade.

Thank you so much for stopping by.

I wish you a good morning, afternoon or evening wherever you are.

Until next time… Adios!

All About Me #11

"Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else." (Judy Garland)

 Hello, my lovely friends!

This month is just all about me when it comes to my culture and heritage. Last week we talked about my Mexican side, but I probably could do another one maybe next week about some more things. However this week were in Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and my Polynesian side fall into this. So, here we go

1. This is my dads side of the family. His dad was born in the Philippines, bit sure what island though. When he was a young man in his twenties he came over to the United States to find a better life for himself. He came with one of his brothers and he moved to California. There was a big Pacific Island community in Denver and thats why he moved here.

2. My first name is in honor of him, his name was Paul. My middle name is Rachel and that is named after my moms dad and his name was Raymond.

3. Growing up the hula is a big part of the family. My dads sister, Nancy danced the hula and passed that down to her daughter. She now teaches hula dancing and all my female cousins and their daughters do hula. I did the dancing as a kid, but never continued on with it.

4. My grandpa played many instruments and wanted his children to learn to play any instrument. When I was in grade school we could sign up for band in 5th grade. I decided to play the violin and the school would give us one to learn on for the year. When my grandpa found out I was playing the violin he gave me one of his. I still have that violin from him.

5. Whenever anyone in the family has a big celebration (wedding, shower, birthdays etc) we will have a luau with all the bells and whistles. Yes, it does involve a pig and other Polynesian foods. Our entertainment does have the hula dancers, both male and female.

6. There are many different languages that Polynesians speak, Tahitian, Tagalog, Samoan, Tongan, Māori and Hawaiian.. Our family sticks to the Tagalog and Hawaiian languages. I only know very little, but would love to learn more. The Tahitian language is spoken by mostly French Polynesians and thats where my grandpa came from.

Thank you so much for stopping by.

I wish you a good morning, afternoon or evening wherever you are.

Until next time Adios!
