"Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forget about those who don't. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would most likely be worth it." (Harvey MacKay)
Hello, my lovely friends!
On November 1st and 2nd, Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos is celebrated in the Mexican culture. We've never had to do a full celebration for, but with my Dad no longer here this takes on a whole new meaning. This is an honor celebration and is not meant to be turned into a Halloween costume or made into something it’s not, it’s only about honoring the people in your family that have passed. I get that people think the sugar skulls are beautiful, but it’s not a costume. This is something sacred to our culture. Today is about honoring my Dad and the things that he loved.
This is my Dad. His name is Robert Refuerzo, but he went by Bob. He was born on St. Patrick's Day. My Dad is Polynesian, Mexican, French and Italian.
My Dad had two things he loved in the world the Denver Broncos and fishing. He got season tickets to the Broncos before my sister was born. When the Broncos won their last Superbowl, my Dad bought a huge smart T.V. and would tell everyone that Peyton Manning bought his T.V. That year my Dad season tickets number was pulled for Superbowl tickets, but decided to sell his tickets and use the money to buy the T.V. (that Peyton Manning paid for).
He also loved fishing. There were times when we would all go up to the mountains with my Mom's side of the family and make a camping weekend of it. He loved just sitting there by the lake for hours fishing whether he caught something or not.
The one thing he loved more than anything was my Mom and my sister and I. We were his girls and that's what he called us. Years ago when my sister was in college and I was in high school he took his "girls" to celebrate Valentine’s Day at Casa Bonita and that began a tradition that we did even this year.
However, when he became a Grandpa that was it. He loved Cuinn, Kyle and Sean so much and they all had a special relationship with him. He always wanted someone to rough house with and he got that with the boys. He would do anything for those boys.
My Dad loved food, but he did stick to what he loved and never really ventured out to new things. His main food love was hot dog, which he called God's food and spaghetti. He love Mexican food and anything hot, the hotter the better.
Those are some of the things that my Dad loved in his life. He was a simple man that loved simple things in life.
So glad you could stop by! Wishing you a splendid rest of your day/evening/morning, wherever you may be.
Until next time! Adios...
