Justthe Facts #9

"The gardens that make us happiest flourish because we have taken the time to make sure they feed our souls and fill a special place in our lives. Sometimes you have to think about what you really want from your garden ... once the beds are laid out and the rose bushes planted."  (Lindley Karstens)

Hello, my lovely friends!

With National Sibling Day yesterday let's do some facts about my older sister, Renee'.

What fun and crazy things did you do with your sibling?

1. Being four years apart from my sister meant our school years never overlapped, and honestly, I loved that. Just as she was graduating and moving on, I was starting my journey there the following year. For me, it was perfect. She's a real social butterfly, while I'm definitely more of a quiet observer. I have no doubt we would have driven each other crazy if we'd been navigating the same school halls at the same time!

2. It's pretty wild to think back on it, but even when I was a tiny baby, she'd sneak into my crib and we'd just sleep side-by-side. That didn't really change as I got older; we'd still end up in the same bed. Then, as teenagers, those sleepy cuddles morphed into these intense late-night talks, spilling all our secrets and thoughts. And honestly? Even now, as adults, whenever we get together, you'll probably find us in my bedroom, still talking until the early hours.

3.  Okay, so my sister was getting married – huge deal! And I was Maid of Honor, which was awesome, but logistically, things were a little wild. They were living in Florida, his family was in Boston, and ours is here in Colorado. Figuring out the bridesmaid dresses with everyone spread out like that? Definitely a challenge. Plus, we only had a month to nail everything down. She had this specific vision for our dresses, but the ones she initially found wouldn't arrive in time. So, it was on me to find something that fit her pink and burgundy color scheme and could actually get here before the big day.

4.  Looking back, it's almost funny now, but that night was rough. My sister, bless her heart, just wasn't cut out for the kitchen, a fact that should've been obvious way before the Great Hamburger Incident. So, Mom and Dad head out for a date, leaving my older sister in charge of dinner – hamburgers. What could go wrong, right? Turns out, a lot. I remember biting into this thing that was charcoal on the outside, and then...ice cold, practically mooing on the inside. Let's just say my stomach did not appreciate that culinary adventure. Spent the rest of the night feeling pretty green.

5.  Okay, so there was this one time, movie night and all. The guys grabbed a beer, did that whole "stab it with a pen and chug" thing. We were way too young for that, obviously. So, naturally, we snagged a root beer. I went first, you know, to show 'em how it's done. Except... the root beer totally backfired. Went straight up my nose, sprayed all over the bathroom wall. We were cracking up as we wiped it all down. Good times.

6.  Right before my period started, my sister handed me her well-loved copy of "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret." I devoured it in a single day, and it was so cool to be able to immediately pepper her with questions. That's just the kind of thing she always did – always looking out for me.

Thank you so much for stopping by! Hope your morning/afternoon/evening is extra cozy and delightful. Until our paths cross again!

  3. That sounds wonderful. My sister and I are 10 years apart so that kind of closeness growing up just wasn't possible. I was more her mom than sister. Have a great weekend.

    1. That would be difficult to be close with the age difference. Did you get closer through the years?

Have an amazing day! (((BIG HUGS)))

  4. It's Kathy. I remember that book from when my daughters were young. You have some lovely memories of your sister. Unfortunately, I do not. I was the tomboy of the family, always getting dirty. She was the perfect child always doing exactly what my mother wanted - at least until she was a teenager. Then she kind of went crazy. As the years passed she became a raging alcoholic until I had to step away from any complete family events. I don't think my mother ever forgave me for that but I couldn't have my children around her - it was not safe! After probably 25 years, we are now talking now and then but we have absolutely nothing in common and if she wasn't my sister, she wouldn't be my friend! So it's really nice to hear about a good sister relationship, which I knew because you so often talk about her and look forward to her visits! Have a good day.

    1. My sister and I went through a hiccup phase when I was doing all the bad things, but she was always there for me. I'm sorry you didn't have a good relationship with yours. I understand you had to keep your family safe.

Have a wonderful day! (((BIG HUGS)))

  5. OH NO on the Great Hamburger incident! YUCK!

2 weddings I stood up for were challenging. Both had people out of town in the wedding party. So we all had to coordinate. Lord! We all ended up finding a dress pattern and material in the required color that we could each sew. What a nightmare! But it all worked out in the end in both cases.

LOL on the root beer. Have this mental picture.

I have seen the movie “Are you There God? It’s Me, Margaret.” Never did read the book, but if it is like the movie, it would be good.

It is so nice to have those wonderful memories and wonderful relationship w/your sister!

HUGS and here’s to a good FriYaY and weekend.

    1. I haven't seen the movie. Someone told me it was pretty good. I might have to watch that the next time my sister is here.

Yeah the root beer thing was funny and we still laugh about it.

      Enjoy your day! (((BIG HUGS)))
