A Whirlwind of a Week

"I think that when the dust settles, we will realize how little we need, how very much we actually have, and the true value of human connection." (Author Unknown)

Hello, my lovely friends!

It has been an absolute whirlwind of a week over here! Between the high points, the low moments, and those "head-scratching" instances that leave me completely baffled, life has been anything but quiet. It feels like I’m constantly juggling a dozen things at once, trying to keep the momentum going while navigating the unexpected twists and turns.

I wanted to take a quick second to say a huge thank you for sticking by me through the chaos. Your patience means the world as I manage the beautiful craziness my life has become.

Nine years without Dad, and I know so many of you truly understand that the ache never really goes away; it just shifts into something different. This anniversary felt particularly heavy, especially for Mom. There’s a certain weight in realizing just how much life she has navigated without him, especially while managing her own health challenges. It’s a bittersweet milestone that reminds us of both her strength and the space he left behind.

To honor him, we kept things quiet and close to home. We spent the evening over big bowls of spaghetti, laughing about how much he absolutely lived for a good pasta dinner. It was simple, comfort-filled, and exactly the kind of "together" he would have loved.

It feels like things are finally shifting into high gear! After a bit of a struggle, Kaiser has really stepped up—they’ve moved those July appointments up to next month and are fast-tracking other dates too. While it’s such a relief to see progress, it’s honestly frustrating that it took a few stern emails to get the momentum going. Everyone deserves that level of commitment to their health from the very start without having to fight for it.

On a brighter note, we managed to power through several appointments for both of us last week. It feels great to have those checked off the list and behind us! Even with the recent hustle from our current provider, we are still planning on switching insurance at the end of the year. For now, we’re just focusing on the wins and staying positive as we move toward better care.

Oh my goodness, what a roller coaster of a week! We were already riding a wave of big emotions when I woke up Friday morning to a total shock: snow. And I’m not talking about a few pretty flakes; we got hit with four inches of that heavy, wet slush that makes everything feel like a winter wonderland (or a giant mess, depending on your mood). It definitely felt like Mother Nature was playing a little prank on us.

Thankfully, the sun decided to make an appearance yesterday and chased all that white stuff away. While the snow is officially a memory, those freezing temperatures are definitely sticking around for a bit! It’s been the talk of the neighborhood, with everyone worried about their poor budding plants. It was a good reminder of that old local wisdom the news crews love to repeat. There’s a reason we’re told to hold off on planting until after Mother’s Day.

It was a treat having you stop by! Whatever the clock says where you are, I hope your morning, afternoon, or evening is a total win. Until our next digital rendezvous... stay wonderful!

  1. So happy to hear that things are progressing with your mom's health care. It can be such a fight and like you I am sad that it has to take fighting to get anywhere and it seems like in any country it is like that. I too, stick to the rule of not planting anything outside until after Mother's Day, and since my daughter's birthday is June 2nd... I sometimes wait until closer to that date just to be on the safe side. This morning has gotten cold again and they are saying that some of the white stuff can be mixed up with the rain.
I, too had been playing catch up but so happy that I am back and writing again. Two musing blogs so far and another getting prepped for this coming Friday! Have a lovely week my friend!

  2. It's Kathy. Thank goodness you were able to get appointments next month for your mom! It's just too bad you had to fight so hard for it. I agree, one should NOT have to fight the system to get proper health care - especially if one is in pain! We also woke up to snow this morning, but not too much. The sun is up and most of it has melted already! It's not all that surprising to get a big snow storm in April, but I hope it's done now! Take care and have a lovely day!

  3. My dear, ((HUGS)) Yes, the ache never goes away, but some good memories dull the hurt a little. You never stop missing them!

What a wonderful way to remember your Dad, eating spaghetti! Strange . . . that was my Dad’s thing, too . . . . . garlic and parmesan buttered pasta. That’s what we have on his anniversary. Mom loved chicken and noodles, so that’s what we have on her anniversary.

Glad things are straightening out w/Kaiser. Yes, everyone deserves total commitment from their health care provider and team.

Our week has been pummeled by severe storms. Tornadoes, winds, flooding rains, hail. UGH. Mother Nature surely is up to lots of games.

Yes, we’re told to hold off on planting til after Mother’s Day here, too. Wise advice.

HUGS and hope it’s a good week for the 3 of you.

    hugs and blessings

  4. Your mom is so fortunate to have you close and "in her corner" as those medical challenges have come along. Glad things are moving in the right direction. You are juggling, too, because you have to take care of your own health, not just your mom! So good that you're able to keep memories of your Dad close for both your sakes.

No snow here, knock wood. The word "chance of" had been in the forecast within the past week, but it passed us by, thank goodness.

I'm such a scaredy cat when it comes to cold fingers and slippery footing, that I'm glad when dry and warm enough to walk the dog comes around. Good thing about snow and rain, they help keep the "fire hazard" days down!
