Happy New Year 2026

"Whether we want them or not, the New Year will bring new challenges;
whether we seize them or not, the New Year will bring new opportunities."
(Michael Josephson)

Hello, my lovely friends!

How is everyone feeling? We are officially two days into the shiny new year, and if you’re like me, you’re still catching your breath from the holiday whirlwind.

Usually, by January 2nd, the "New Year, New Me" pressure is at a fever pitch. We’re told to run faster, eat less, and work harder. But this year? I’m inviting you to hit the pause button with me. Before we dive into the deep end, let's talk about why putting yourself first is the most productive thing you can do this year.

I’ll be honest: I’m moving away from the word "resolution." It feels a bit like a stern finger-wagging, doesn't it? Instead, I’m calling them Life Upgrades or Compassionate Goals. The problem with traditional resolutions is that we often jump in feet first without a map. We decide on January 1st to change everything, and by February, we’re burnt out and back where we started. Not this time!

This year feels different because we’re prioritizing the plan over the pressure. Taking care of yourself means giving yourself the gift of organization so you aren't constantly stressed.

Here is how we’re making 2026 the year of "Peace over Panic":

  • Micro-Mapping: Instead of saying "I want to be healthy," try "I will block out 20 minutes on my calendar for a walk on Tuesdays." Small steps are harder to trip over.

  • The "Joy Audit": Before you add a goal to your list, ask: Does this make me feel excited or just guilty? If it’s guilt, scrap it. Putting yourself first means pursuing what fuels you.

  • Rest as a Requirement: Put your rest days on the calendar first. You can’t pour from an empty cup, and you certainly can’t execute a "Life Upgrade" if you’re running on fumes.

No more "winging it." If there is something you want to accomplish, whether it’s learning a new hobby, finally organizing that one closet, or setting better boundaries at work, sit down today with a coffee and write out the how.

I dusted off my books that I try to read and work through every year. I like having books that are about inspiring or getting in touch with your emotions. You know books to better yourself, but with daily things to think about or do. I don’t always read daily, but I do look over them weekly.

  • Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach
  • Younger by the Day by Victoria Moran
  • Find Your Happy Daily Mantras by Shannon Kaiser
  • Eat Pretty Everyday by Jolene Hart
  • Well-Rested Every day by Jolene Hart

I hope those ideas give you a good starting point! Try to carve out a half-hour this weekend to flesh out a plan with some concrete details. Don't forget to make it personal—include things like attitude shifts you're working on, special rewards for yourself, and the big goals you’re excited to hit.

I’m so grateful you spent a bit of your day here with me. I hope the rest of your morning, afternoon, or evening is filled with little moments of joy and a whole lot of cozy.  Take good care of yourself, and I’ll be looking forward to our next chat!
